It wasn't easy getting started to write about luxury private air charters such as with Aeroshares Charter, LLC when a good friend offered me the opportunity to do so. Sure, like many of you, I've flown on commercial aircraft numerous times, but I've never been on a private jet charter. Thinking of what I did know about flying commercially was easy.
First to weigh out the cost of leaving the car so it was accessible when I came back or asking someone to drop me off and pick me up upon return, which was never at my convenience. The pick up on return was either my sister with the kids, my mom who always was a wreck driving around the airport or a jealous boyfriend inquiring about the trip as I sat tired, hungover and wishing I'd sucked up the parking fees and left my car at the airport to begin with.
Lets go check-in at the gate and hope I'm at least at the end of the velvet roping displaying "Enter Here." I pass along my luggage to the air attendant 20 minutes later who cracks a half smile. Do you think that is the minimal personal interaction requirement for the "next"customer? After paying the extra fees now imposed on baggage check I'm off to the security checkpoint.
When your two hours early, most airlines suggest this, I think their should be a pass that says, "Please advance to the front of the line because your've come early to avoid long lines!" I'm already frustrated, the lady in front of me heard me sigh. Apparently she thought her gum snapping was bothering me, that was too, and she snapped it faster. I go through the open security doorway and the alarm starts beeping. My shoes and jewelry couldn't have set it off because I'd already removed them. After a short evaluation by the security guard it was my belt buckle, a.k.a. cheap metal. Feeling a tad embarrassed I swankered over to claim my stuff and dress and I see this big burly, hairy guy buttoning his shirt back up. He wasn't happy and I was feeling quilty for whining to myself about my own experience.
Off to find my gate of departure, but not before checking out the board to see if my flights on-time. Since my flight is delayed 15 minutes I've got time to hit the facilities. If you've ever used the restroom aboard the plane your aware of the room allocated to do your business and the on the ground facilities offer a better choice.
Already off schedule I called ahead to my pick-up in Washington, D.C. noting the current delay on arrival. Boarded and enroute I was lucky enough to be seated with 19C, "Jimmy The Spitter," he was coined this after he kept spitting on me for more than 40 minutes talking about his girlfriend of 16 years who left him for her best friend Alice. Arriving 25 minutes off schedule, washed-out, hungry and ear screwed I get herded to baggage claim some 3 miles around and down the terminal.
Ask me about private air charter and I'll tell you to go fly a commercial flight first, it only gets better from that.
